dc.description.abstract The objective of this study was to carry out whether the students make errors, and to find the types of errors made by the second-year students of SMAN 2 FakFak in learning the Simple Past Tense in their Argumentative writing. The classification of the types of the error of this study was based on Dulay, and the procedure of error analysis used Ellis‟ procedure. In this study, the writer used descriptive analysis method to describe students is error and analyze the data. The data which were taken from the test focus on Simple Past Tense. The sample of this study was the students of tenth grade of SMAN 2 FakFak, academic year 2020/2021, the class X IPA 1 consisting of 12 students. Procedure of data analysis covered identifying and describing. The result of writer‟s analysis Argumentative Writing was made by students, most of them made an error in used past tense. They did not pay attention about changing of verb in past tense and past continuous. The students also made errors in others type of errors. They are such as students made errors in addition parts, omission, misformation and misodering. From the data, we could know that students X IPA 1 had a problems about using past tense in Argumentative Writing. The suggestion is if students often practice in Argumentative writing it may minimize mistakes and errors en_US
