Abstract:
The objective of the research is to know of English English learning
achievement in the school.
In this study the writer used descriptive qualitative research method. This
research focus on parents‟ eduation background and students‟ achievement in
English learning. In this study used questionnaire as the instrument. Questionnaire
is used to get the data about parent‟s eduactional background. It is consists of 16
questions, 8 questions are about father‟s education backround and 8 questions
again are about mothers‟s educataion background. In collecting data, the writer
used questionnaire and documentation. The writer analyzed data which collected
from student‟s questionnaire and documentation.
Based on research findings shows that parents‟ education level
background at the seventh-grade students of SMPN 8 Makassar was considered
medium category. It can be seen from the average value of parent‟s educational
background was 90, it is on the interval 87 – 93. The average value of student‟s
achievement in English learning was 90. Therefore, the English learning
achievement at the seventh-grade students of SMPN 8 Makassar categorized well.
In this research, it was found that there was significant between correlation and
influence of parent‟s educational background and student‟s English learning
achievement. However this correlation and the influence were low, which pointed
to other factors influencing students English learning achievement.
