Members of the tariqa usually consist of people from different social backgrounds, from lower-middle to upper-middle socioeconomic class. The principle of solidarity unites members who strictly follow the religious Shari'a, value local knowledge, are pragmatic, and are idealistic. Here, we identify the characteristics of the social solidarity and religious identity of the members of the Tariqa Khalwatia Samman based on Islamic
Sufism. This study is based on a systematic review of relevant literature to address how religious and occupational identities relate in the workplace. The results demonstrated that social solidarity and religious identity are the core characteristics of the Khalwatia Samman Congregation. They form an intimate social network even when the members are from various social backgrounds. The members are united by a single religious identity, with characteristics such as demonstrating obedience to the caliphate, believing in the Sanad of knowledge, trusting the lineage of the nasab of the tariqa leaders, and performing religious
activities to commemorate various occasions, such as Haul or Dhikr Bersama. |
