Abstract:
This research aimsed to find out students’ writing ability especially in
writing summary in using Recording World News Video in Metro TV at SMPN
35 Makassar.
The researcher applied pre experimental in one class pre-test and post-test.
This research was conducted at SMPN 35 Makassar by deciding VIII.1 as
population and choosing class VIII.1 which amount 25 students as a sample.
Technique of collecting data was done by giving test. In analyzing the numerical
data, the writer used SPSS v. 22.0.
Based on the results of data analysis, the writer concluded that the use of
Recording World News Video in Metro TV can increase students' writing skill. It
was proved by the mean score of the students’ in pretest and post-test. The result
of the research shows that Recording World News Video significantly increased
students’ writing summary ability after did treatment. The mean score improved
from 36.30 in pre-test to 63.43 in post-test. It indicated that students’ ability in
using recording world news video in Metro TV at SMPN 35 Makassar can be
categorized as fair criterion. Nevertheless, there were still many students who
have poor ability in summary writing using Recording World News Video.
