Abstract:
This research is aimed to know the extent and students’ response toward
the implementation of vlog to enhance EFL students’ speaking ability at the tenth
grade of SMAN 5 Makassar.
This research was classified as quasi-experimental design used control and
experimental class. The population of this research were the tenth grade students
of SMAN 5 Makassar in academic year 2019/2020 consisting of 420 students.
Cluster random sampling was used to take two classes as the sample of the
research which consist of 62 students. Class X MIPA 3 as the experimental class
and X MIPA 4 as the control class. The data were obtained from speaking test and
questionnaire.
The writer used inferential analysis of t-test by SPSS v.16, the writer
concludes that the implementation of video blog in teaching English enhance the
students’ speaking ability. The results of the research showed that there was a
significant improvement in the students’ mean score speaking ability between the
students who were taught by video blog and those who were taught by using the
textbook. The mean score of the students’ speaking performance in experimental
class increased from 64,45 in pre-test to 79,32 in post-test. While in control class,
the mean score of pre-test 64,97 to 74,45 in post-test . The significance value
calculated 0.000 is smaller than 0.05 (P-value = 0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the
hypothesis of this study was accepted. In addition, the writer found that most of
the students gave positive response toward the implementation of vlog in
improving their speaking ability. It means that the video blog can enhance the
students’ speaking ability in the English teaching at SMAN 5 Makassar.
