This study aims to determine whether or not the use of skimming and
scanning technique can enhance students‟ skill in reading.
This study is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles.
Each cycle consist of four stage namely: planning, action, observation, and
reflection. Samples were students‟ of classVII-3 SMPN 17 Makassar. The
data was collected by giving a test and then,analyzed through skimming
and scanning technique. The test is an objective written test, so the results
are not influenced by the subjectivity of the writer. The test aims to
determine the results of students„ mastery in using skimming and scanning
after a given action.
The findings indicated that there was an improvement in the students‟
reading skill from cycle I to cycle II, where as in cycle I the students‟
achievement reading skill was (60.33%), but after evaluating in cycle II the
students‟ reading skills became (89.62%) from these findings, the writer
conclude that using skimming and scanning technique at SMPN 17
Makassar, can improve the students‟ reading skill achievement and made
students‟ active in learning process. |
