Abstract:
This study aims to discover and analyze the types of mental issue and how
to comprehend particular mental issue spesifically in novel and to determine the
pattern of consciousness in the state of id, ego and superego. The primary data
sources used in this study are from novel Every Day that written by David
Levithan.
The story of this novel about a spirit was that lived by borrowing the life of
the body it lived in, never stayed in the same body twice or stayed for more than
one day. The data obtained by reading the novel, identifying words or sentences
that contained the types of mental issue and the consciousness of id, ego,
superego, highlighting words or sentences, reading, re-understanding, summarize
main points, and after that writer could drawing and find the conclusion. The
writer uses qualitative descriptive method uses in analyzing the data.
The resulted of this study showed that the main character had a mental
health issue of Dissociative Identity Disorder, it showed the main personality and
alter ego personality, the main character had a lot of identities inside him. For the
level conscious the main character had dominant of id, whereas the impulsive,
immoral, needs, love was more dominant that the ego and superego.
