TINJAUAN SOSIAL DAN EKONOMI UPACARA ADAT Rambu Solo’ (Studi kasus Masyarakat Toraja di Lembang Sa’dan Ballopasange’, Kecamatan Sa’dan, Kabupaten Toraja Utara)

Abstract

The implementation of the Rambu Solo funeral ceremony tradition which has become part of the identity and culture of the Tana Toraja people has often become the center of public attention. Various phenomena of the Rambu Solo funeral ceremony are rare and never even carried out with small ceremonies but mostly on a large scale. With the phenomenon of carrying out the ceremony on a large scale, many livestock are sacrificed with the main purpose of the consumption of guests during the implementation of the funeral ceremony. The existence of sacrificed livestock is a particular concern for many parties. At this time, the attention not only lies in the number but in the price of livestock which can reach hundreds of millions to billions of rupiah per head. With the very high price of livestock, researchers are interested and have researched by exploring the correlation between social and economic aspects of the implementation of the Rambu Solo funeral ceremony for the residents of Tana Toraja. The researcher chose to do this research in Lembang Sa'dan Ballopasange', Sa'dan District, North Toraja Regency. In collecting data, researchers conducted observations, interviewed various sources, and distributed questionnaires. Then in the data analysis process, researchers used descriptive analysis. From this research, it is found that there is a proven correlation between social and economic aspects of the funeral ceremony for Rambu Solo in Lembang Sa'dan Ballopasange', Sa'dan District, North Toraja Regency. In the social aspect, it is evident from the efforts to help each other and work together until there is a competition for prestige in the implementation of the ceremony, while in the economic aspect, apart from the efforts of families, they must try to fulfill the needs of the ceremony through hard work or financial assistance from children and grandchildren, the implementation of this solo sign funeral ceremony is also assisting the income of the Tana Toraja area.
